What To Do With Your Kids Over the Weekend
For those of you who are parents, you know that one of the biggest challenges is finding clever ways to spend time with your kids over the weekend without driving everyone crazy, or spending an arm and a leg. Last year I attended the second East Bay Maker Faire (There is another one coming up in just a few weeks – October 16th from 10AM – 5 PM). While there I ran into representatives of 510families.com. The founders of 510 Families are Heather and Whitney. Their goal with 510 Families is to provide parents with an on demand list of the best things to do with your kids each week. Most of the events are free or very inexpensive.
I signed up for their weekly newsletter and have vastly broadened our weekend experiences as a family. Earlier this year we saw the children’s play, A Year With Frog and Toad at Berkeley’s Freight and Salvage, and just a few weeks ago, we headed out to the Berkeley Marina to row in a dragon boat! Both experiences were out of the ordinary for us, and a LOT of fun for our 8 year old daughter and us, too! The children’s plays, by the way, are put on by a wonderful organization based right here in Montclair : The Bay Area Children’s Theater.
So, next time you are wondering what to do with your kids over the weekend, look no further than 510families.com. Below is a picture we took on the way in to the dragon boat affair. What you see there is a very cool kite that is comprised of several yellow skittering crabs. It had just come in for a landing when we happened by.
