Local Liquor

A few weekends ago my wife and I were out shopping for a present for a friend’s birthday. We ended up over in Alameda at Hangar One Distillery.
Hangar One makes several delicious vodkas and flavored vodkas. Also in the Hangar is St. George’s Spirits. St. Georges manufactures absinthe, rum agricole, gin, brandies, and a lovely single malt whiskey.
You can certainly find Hangar One and St. George’s Spirits in many stores, but to really check out the operation, stop by the building in Alameda and check out the tasting room. There for a modest fee you can tour their lovely facilities, taste their wares, or even book a group outing. It’s not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the East Bay.

While you are there, or if wine is more your thing, you might drop by Rosenblum Cellars. Rosenblum is a lovely local winery just a couple of blocks from Hangar One. The tasting room and private dining room at Rosenblum are comfortable, stylish, and spectacular. Rosenblum makes a variety of wines including Syrahs, white wines, and dessert wines. They are most known, however, for the award winning Zinfandels.
So, next time you are out to buy spirits or wine, or just to kill time on a weekend, take the time to check out these two local gems.
